VERDEinMED launches a social media campaign to raise awareness about textile waste

22/11/2024

How many liters of water are needed to produce a pair of jeans? Do we know the working conditions in the clothing and textile sector?

During the European Week for Waste Reduction and Black Friday, the VERDEinMED project is launching a powerful communication campaign through social media videos aimed at raising awareness about the issue of textile waste. The campaign, coordinated by the Italian partner Legambiente (Italy), involves several VERDEinMED partners, including the Bulgarian Fashion Association, CITEVE (Portugal), Consorci de la Ribera (Spain), Diadyma S.A. (Greece), E-Zavod (Slovenia), and the Textile Trade Association – Textile Cluster (North Macedonia).

Through videos filmed in the streets of different countries, the campaign will help citizens discover the impacts of the fashion industry and understand how their purchasing choices affect the environment. It will provide information and attempt to answer pressing questions related to the circularity of the textile sector, using a scientific, data-driven approach.

The first video, shared today on the social media profiles of Legambiente and VERDEinMED, was produced by Legambiente and filmed in Rome’s most exclusive shopping streets. As the video suggests, there are alternatives to promote textile circularity, such as repairing clothing, choosing eco-friendly and sustainable brands, renting clothing for special occasions, donating items we no longer use, and, most importantly, staying informed to make sustainable consumption choices.
