The VERDEinMED initiative has successfully launched its first National Textile Circularity Hubs in Bulgaria, Greece and Spain. These hubs represent a major step forward in advancing sustainability and promoting circular economy practices within the textile and fashion sectors across the Mediterranean. By bringing together academic institutions, policymakers, and businesses, VERDEinMED aims to address regional environmental challenges and foster innovative solutions in this key industry.
Bulgaria: Coordinated by Bulgarian Fashion Association
The Bulgarian National Textile Circularity Hub, coordinated by the Bulgarian Fashion Association (BFA), includes partners such as the University of Ruse, the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BIC Innobridge, vocational training centers, and SMEs. The hub’s primary goal is to implement circular economy principles in the textile industry, reduce industrial waste, and foster innovation through education and collaborative initiatives.
Greece: Coordinated by CERTH and DYADIMA
The Greek National Textile Circularity Hub is led by the Centre for Research & Technology, Hellas (CERTH) and DYADIMA, in collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy, Green Fund, Recycom Greece, COMO and the Ecological Recycling Society. Academic contributions come from the University of West Attica (Laboratory of Design and Development of Innovative Knitted Textiles and Garments), the International Hellenic University, the Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th.), and the Harokopio University of Athens. Key industry players like Tsiakiris Silkhouse and Incommon-Innovative Circular Open also contribute.
Spain: Coordinated by CTA and Consorci de la Ribera
The Spanish National Textile Circularity Hub, coordinated by the Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) and Consorci de la Ribera (CRIB), works closely with partners such as AITEX (Textile Industry Research Association), the University of Cordoba, the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, and the Instituto Valenciano de Competitividad e Innovación IVACE +i (Generalitat Valenciana). It also collaborates with leading companies like SILBON, Mayoral Moda Infantil, TEXLIMCA, Sekond, Visión Circular and TEXFOR – Confederación de la Industria Textil.
More hubs yet to be inaugurated
While the National Textile Circularity Hubs in Bulgaria, Greece and Spain are now operational, additional hubs are still to be inaugurated as part of the VERDEinMED project. Updates will be provided as new hubs join the initiative, further advancing sustainability and green innovation in the textile sector across the Mediterranean region.
