VERDEinMED enters a new phase to expand textile circularity across the Mediterranean

14/10/2026

The European project VERDEinMED has officially entered its Transfer Phase, following its selection for the Interreg Euro-MED Programme’s Fast Lane “Test to Transfer” procedure. This new stage will build on the results achieved so far, bringing tested solutions for textile waste prevention and circularity to new Mediterranean territories.

On 16 July 2026, existing and new project partners gathered online for an introductory meeting to discuss the objectives, activities and next steps of the Transfer Phase, marking the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation.

Building on the project’s achievements

Since its launch in January 2024, VERDEinMED has worked to promote a more sustainable and circular textile sector by supporting businesses, public authorities and consumers in adopting more responsible practices.

During its Test Phase, the project developed and tested an integrated Support Service, bringing together practical tools and initiatives such as the VERDE Bussola, the Knowledge Platform, the VERDE Academy, regional VERDE Hubs and technical assistance for textile companies.

Building on these achievements, the Transfer Phase will focus on adapting and transferring the project’s solutions to new territories, helping local stakeholders address textile waste challenges and strengthen circular practices across the value chain.

Welcoming new partners

The new phase also brings four additional organisations to the VERDEinMED consortium, contributing complementary expertise and extending the project’s geographical reach:

In addition, the Hellenic Recycling Agency (EOAN) and the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN) have joined as associated partners.Their involvement will strengthen cooperation between territories and support the adaptation of VERDEinMED’s results to different local and regional contexts.

From testing to transferring circular solutions

Running until March 2028, the 21-month Transfer Phase will focus on turning the knowledge and experience gained during the project into practical solutions that can be adopted beyond the original testing territories.

Key activities will include territorial needs assessments, the development of a Transfer Toolkit, stakeholder engagement, training and capacity-building initiatives.

Particular attention will be given to supporting public authorities, businesses and waste management stakeholders in addressing emerging challenges, including separate textile waste collection, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and the integration of circular economy principles into local policies and business practices.

Through these activities, VERDEinMED aims to strengthen local capacities and facilitate the long-term uptake of circular textile solutions across the Mediterranean.

Strengthening cooperation for a circular textile future

With an expanded consortium and a renewed focus on knowledge transfer, VERDEinMED will continue fostering cooperation between public authorities, industry representatives and other stakeholders involved in the textile value chain.

Co-funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme under its Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission, the project seeks to ensure that the solutions developed and tested can contribute to lasting improvements in textile waste management, resource efficiency and circularity across Mediterranean territories.
